Imagine that you could design your ideal summer. What would it look like? What if your kids could design their ideal summer? How would your summers be similar? How would they be different?
Think about summers past. What stands out in your memory?
I think of a few epic camping trips with family and friends. Carrying insanely heavy backpacks into the wilderness. Sleeping under the stars. Being grateful for my down sleeping bag when the temperature dropped at night. Noticing the layers of stress slowly peel away.
It was hard work to figure out food, to get everything packed, to conjure the time to step out of the daily demands and head out on unknown trails.
Epic isn’t easy. I don’t think you get to epic without working hard for it…epic demands a leap out of the comfort zone. And there’s usually a lot of learning involved.
That’s my epic. Yours may be very different. And your son’s or daughter’s epics will undoubtedly be different than yours. Epic changes. My epic today will be different than it was so many summers past. Before summer arrives, imagine having some conversations about what would be epic with each other. What can we learn from each others’ epics?
To be continued…
